Frequently asked questions

Brief answers about required forms, assessments, privacy, and submission.

The Letter of Intent (LOI) is a short formal notice to your school district announcing that you will homeschool your child for the coming year. Under NY Part 100.10, it is due by July 1 each year. It does not need to include curriculum details — just your intent to homeschool.
The IHIP (Individualized Home Instruction Plan) is due August 15 and must cover every required subject for your child's grade. Each subject needs one paragraph describing the curriculum you'll use and your general teaching approach. Formal but brief is the standard.
Four quarterly reports are due each school year: Q1 on November 15, Q2 on January 31, Q3 on April 15, and Q4 on June 30. If any subject had less than 80% of planned material covered, you must include an explanation.
It depends on grade and school year. Kindergarten has no assessment requirement. Grades 1–3 require a written narrative every year. Grades 4–8 alternate between standardized testing (even years) and narrative (odd years). Grades 9–12 require a standardized test every year. The checker calculates this automatically.
No. This is an independent free tool. It summarizes publicly available regulations from NY Part 100.10 to help families understand their obligations. It is not legal advice. Always verify current requirements directly with your school district before submitting documents.
